WHAT IS SEA MOSS?

Regarded by many as a potent superfood rich in essential vitamins and minerals. This unique red algae offers a robust texture and comes in a diverse color palette, including a striking golden-white hue. Elevate your well-being with this nutritional powerhouse.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE GOLD AND THE PURPLE COLORS?

Sea moss is available in a range of vibrant colors, each resulting from the presence of plant-derived compounds called phytonutrients, commonly found in fruits and vegetables.

Golden sea moss contains compounds such as phlorotannins and fucoxanthins. Phlorotannins are noted for their anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Fucoxanthins are known for their antioxidant characteristics, which include aiding in cell communication and reducing oxidative stress.

In contrast, purple sea moss is rich in anthocyanins, a type of flavonoid. These compounds have been studied for their antioxidant properties, which include the neutralization of harmful molecules.

In essence, both the golden and purple varieties of Sea Moss are nutrient-rich. The golden type has a more subtle flavor, while the purple variety has a taste that is more reminiscent of the ocean.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEA MOSS AND IRISH MOSS?

The terms "Sea Moss" and "Irish Sea Moss" are often used interchangeably, but they can refer to different species within the red algae family.

  1. Sea Moss generally refers to a variety of species, the most commonly known being Genus Gracilaria. This type of sea moss grows in warmer tropical waters and is known for its thicker, stick-like branches.

  2. Irish Sea Moss, specifically known as Chondrus crispus, is a type of red algae that grows in the colder ocean waters of the North Atlantic. It is often recognized by its characteristic flat and curly leaves, which are different in shape from the tropical varieties of sea moss.

While they are different species, both Sea Moss and Irish Sea Moss are valued for their carrageenan content—an extract used as a thickener and stabilizer in the food industry—and for a similar range of minerals and vitamins. They are both considered to have health benefits and are used in various supplements and health foods. However, due to their different growing conditions and species, their nutrient profiles can vary slightly, as can their taste, texture, and color when included in products.

WHERE IS YOUR SEA MOSS FROM?

Our sea moss is harvested from the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean Sea, specifically off the coast of St. Lucia. Local divers hand-pick our Sea Moss and naturally harvest it in the ocean. It is then cleaned and sun-dried prior to packaging. There is no other human intervention or use of chemicals and pesticides. The ocean waters are also monitored and routinely tested for Heavy Metals such as Lead, Mercury, E.Coli, and more.
